What Causes Thumb Vein Pain, Swelling And Bruising?

The vein in my right thumb just under the joint is swollen and very painful. It looks bruised. I did not hurt my thumb in any way that I can recall. It has been swollen for a couple weeks even with ice on it. Wondering if its something to worry about, don t want a blood clot or something to develop from it.

I have gone through your query and understand your concern.You may be having thrombophlebitis of one of veins of thumb. But I think you are having tendinitis of thumb tendons called de'quirevains disease. Treatment of it is rest to joint and analgesic. I found good result of injection triamcilone locally in the sheath. You can discuss with your doctor about it. Hope your query get answered.
