What Causes Throbbing Movement In Lower Abdomen?

I have a throbbing movement taking place in my lower abdomen that feels just like a baby kicking. I am not pregnant and feel it must be something in my intestines. It has gone on for over a week now. My mother and sister suffer from IBS. Could it just be gas?

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood the concerns.
Throbbing movement in the lower abdomen like baby kicking in spite of no pregnancy and with a family history of IBS this can be due to the following reasons:
Enteritis that is infection of the intestines with hyper-motility as you have suspected.
Sub-acute intestinal infection.
Pelvic inflammatory disease if you are a female with attendant intestinal motility.
This can be diagnosed by the following:
X-ray of the abdomen in standing position.
Contrast enhanced CT scan of the abdomen.
Tests of blood, stool and urine.
Examination by your Doctor and the respective specialist as would be guided by your Doctor.
Management will definitely be dependent on the finding of the investigations and clinical presentation.
