What Causes Throat Pain, Fever And Lack Of Appetite After Tooth Removal?

Our 6 year old son had a tooth pulled yesterday. Last night cheek slightly swollen withj slight fever.
Now he has no tooth pain but high fever - up to 103 degrees and now back down to 100+. No appetite and says throat hurts. Is this anything that we need to worry about or just a normal illness?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain high fever and throat pain after tooth extraction seems to be due to septicemia that is the entry of bacteria into the blood circulation from the extraction site.
The body's defence mechanism tries to fight with the infection and there is rise in body temperature which is a sign that body is defending infection..
Nothing to worry, you can give him Tylenol for reducing fever and do cold sponges over the forehead and body..
For throat ache make him do warm saline gargles and steam inhalations.
If he is not advised to take antibiotics amoxicillin can be taken..

If the fever does not resolve or keeps recurring consult a Generl Physician and get him evaluated..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
