What Causes Throat Pain And Earache After Treatment For Strep Throat?

I had strep throat a couple of weeks ago. I took all my medicine. The last dose I took, I noticed my throat and tongue starting to hurt as well as my ear. I had my husband look at what was on my throat to see if it was strep again, but he said it looked like a canker on my tonsil as well as the side of my tongue. It is causing alot of pain when I eat. Is this normal? What could it be?

Hi, thanks for your query at Healthcare Magic.

I understand your concern.

The condition of pain in the throat and earache can occur due to an inflammatory reaction in the throat or surrounding tissue. As a result, this prolonged throat disturbance will cause interference in the connected organs of the ear and nose. Infection in the throat will be able to strike into the ear through the ear and throat connecting channels so that eventually the ear will also be infected and pain. The condition of pain when prostrate is due to swelling of the throat and also can occur due to disturbance of the middle ear there is a center of balance, which if disturbed will cause dizziness. Or it could also be caused by other things. The possibility that happened to you is:
- Sore throat, inflammation that can occur due to infection or irritation due to food and drink.
- Otitis media, which is an infection of the middle ear where there is a center of balance, where interference causes pain in the ears and dizziness
- Inflammation of the tonsils, which is infection of the tonsils so it will feel pain around the oral cavity, sometimes accompanied feeling crowded.
- And other possibilities

For that I suggest you to meet an otorhinolaryngologist to get the appropriate treatment and accordingly. Some suggestions for you now are:
- Drink a lot of water
- Avoid consumption of foods that can irritate the upper gastrointestinal tract and upper respiratory tract such as fried foods, crackers, and foods that contain many flavors, preservatives, artificial sweeteners and sweeteners
- Consumption enough fruits and vegetables
- Get enough rest and sleep
