What Causes Throat Pain After Removal Of Lower Right Wisdom Tooth?

Hi, I had my lower right wisdom tooth pulled out last Tuesday, I had pain in my throat from the start, but seemed to get slightly better two days later. On the Sunday I was unable to open my jaw fully and found it impossible to swallow foods. It's now Wednesday 8 days after surgery and no sign of improving. Any advice would be of help. I have been rinsing my mouth and throat out with salt water and gives some relief.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain pain in throat while having infection or Inflammation related to wisdom tooth is not an abnormal finding..
It occurs because of the close proximity of the wisdom tooth area to the throat..
As after 8 days of extraction you still have difficulty in opening mouth and died swallowing, there is a possibility that you have got an infection at the extraction site..
It is lead to inflammation and swelling inside the mouth and causing restricted mouth opening leading to Trismus..
You should consult your dentist and get evaluated and he can do a clinical examination..
He can advise you a course of antibiotics like Augmentin and Anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen..
You can also do cool compresses over the cheek..
Continue with doing warm saline gargles and take a soft diet..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
