What Causes Thick White Deposits Deep Inside Ears?
My husband has a lot of hard build up wax, the color of brownish-red in his ear. When I used the otoscope to look into his ear canal, I notice a thick chalky whiteness behind his ear wax. He says he has no pain at all. I suggested that he should go see a ENT specialist, but he doesn't think he needs to. Is it serious and what do you think it may be? Should he get it checked out?

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of thick white deposits deep inside ears which seems to be due to slightest accumulation of debris, even a dead hair which are leading to ear canal dermatitis , otitis media and wax buildup. Need not to worry. For now you can put 2 drops of olive oil once a day to prevent dryness and cover your ear while bathing. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination. Doctor may order CT scan and examine with otoscope . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics (gentamycin ) for a week along with corticosteroid ear drops and may remove wax. You should not scratch your ear with nails , that may cause infection or bleeding. you should avoid any cosmetic product and apply moisturizer in your ear like petroleum jelly.
