What Causes Thick Salivation?

Tried breakfast this a.m. upon attempting to swallow first bite I suddenly began to salivate and what appeared to be like a thick phlegm filled my mouth. Had to expel and there was a great deal of this gel like substance clear but thick. I am not sick with any kind of a bug or cough and I am not a smoker.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of thick salivation in mouth which seems to be due to majorly dehydration. It could be due to infection of salivary glands and minor obstruction and acid reflex. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to chew on sugar free candies and citrus or tart food substances. You should do warm saline gargles to prevent bacteria and debris accumulation. You should consult dentist for proper examination. Doctor will examine physically and perform oral prophylaxis , Doctor may refer you to gastroenterologist if it is related to reflex. For now maintain proper oral hygiene and avoid eating spicy and heavy food .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
