What Causes The Toddler To Stick Out Its Tongue Constantly?

My 3 1/2 year old sticks his tongue out constantly. While watching tv, playing, eating, I can t make him listen when I tell him to keep his tongue in his mouth, a few minutes later, it s hanging out again. Should i be concerned? What do I do to stop it?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is possible that it may only be a habit that he would eventually grow out of or it may mean that he is keeping his mouth open to help with his breathing.

Some children may do this if there is a nasal obstruction present which may be due to inflammation or the presence of polyps (non cancerous growths)

You may want to consider taking him to his doctor for assessment.

I hope this helps
