Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes The Inability To Take Food After A Cholecystectomy?
My daughter has had 2 surgeries within a 2 week period. She had an Appendectomy and 4 days later had a Cholecystectomy. The latter was a week ago today and she is still not eating or able to tolerate more than Jello, a bit of Yogurt (low fat), a bit of chicken noodle soup (low fat) Now, I am a nurse (42 years experience) and it is difficult for me to understand why she is not able to progress to more low fat foods at this time. Could there be something else going on with her that was probably not investigated during her hospitalization and should we go back to her surgeon for further investigation? What is your opinion on this or do you need more detailed info. ?
Although a detailed clinical history would help me provide a better tuned course of actions, I suggest it would take up valuable time. Kindly visit your surgeon at the earliest.

What Causes The Inability To Take Food After A Cholecystectomy?
Dear Madam, Indeed you should visit your consultant surgeon at the earliest. As an experienced health care provider, I hope you realise the list of possible complications are quite exhaustive. Injury to the common bile duct, pancreatic duct, gall stone pancreatitis, hepatitis, infection around the porta hepatis are some of the possibilities. Although a detailed clinical history would help me provide a better tuned course of actions, I suggest it would take up valuable time. Kindly visit your surgeon at the earliest. regards, Dr. Sourav Das Choudhury
