What Causes The Feeling Of Lumps On The Frenulum?

My husband has been complaining several weeks now saying that he feels like hard, rubber type nodules feel like they are trying to come out from under the soft tissue of his tongue. He says they feel like tubes. He has seen his Dentist and MD and they can see or feel nothing. I have been a RN for 18 years and I can see or feel nothing either. It comes and goes without pain. He is a heavy smoker and this is causing him to be constantly chewing or gnawing. It is driving him nuts!

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

As per your query your husband have symptoms of lumps, rubber like feeling on frenulum under soft tissues of tongue which is because of minor trauma to that area constantly by nicotine present in cigarette and that is causing inflammation in that area. Wharton's duct present in that area getsadversely affected and because of blockage giving these symptoms.

I would suggest you not to worry much about anything. It is self correcting condition. whenever stimulus of smoke or nicotine is lesser these symptoms will subside and when ever its more symptoms exaggerating and causing gnawing feel.

Maintain proper oral hygiene by gentle brushing and flossing twice a day. Take antimicrobial mouth wash. Do betadine gargles thrice daily.

Take combination of Ibuprofen and Diclofenac if your husband is not asthmatic. Drink alot fluids. Put tea tree oil on cotton swab and apply gently on lumps it will resolve soon. Take diet rich in Vitamin B 12. Oral probiotics are effective remedy for your condition.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes,
