Hi,

Based on the history you seem to be suffering from allergic reaction apparently caused by mold exposure. Had I been your treating doctor I would have advised you to take oral antihistamine such as loratadine or cetirizine along with montelukast.

To prevent such reaction I would advice the following:

1. Eliminate sources of dampness in other areas such as basements,
2. Use a dehumidifier in any area of your home that smells musty or damp.
3. Keep your humidity levels below 50 percent.
4. Clean the collection bucket and condensation coils regularly.
5. Use an air conditioner with a high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter attachment to trap mold spores from outdoor air before they're circulated inside your home.
6. Change filters on your furnace and air conditioners regularly
7. Be sure all bathrooms are properly ventilated
8. Don't carpet bathrooms and basements
9. Keep organic plant containers clean and dry
10. Toss or recycle old books and newspapers. If left in damp places, such as basements, they can quickly become moldy.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
