I became jaundiced, had clay colored stools, and terrible itching all over my body on May 17. I went to theER, and they diagnosed a biliary tract obstruction. They did an ERCP on May 22, and removed my gall bladder laparoscopically on May 18. The itching has not abated, and is almost unbearable, worse in the afternoon and at night. They said it would go away once the bilirubin was out of my system, but although the obstruction was cleared and my jaundice is gone, the itching is as bad as before. I am taking huge amounts of Benadryl which barely takes the edge off. Could this be a result of bile now constantly present since I don t have a gall bladder to regulate the flow anymore? Do you think cholestramine is called for? I have my post surgery follow up appointment in one week.
