What Causes Tenderness Around The Kidney Area?

My right kidney has felt tender and sore for over the last 8 years. I ve had 3 ultrasounds throughout these 8 years and I ended up having my gal bladder out but the thickening feeling and soreness in my right side and back won t go away. It has been present everyday for 8 years. I ve had boodwork checked for kidney and liver function and it s normal except for some cholesterol issues. It s always tender but I rarely have sharp pains. Only once in a while. I had a kidney stone 15 years ago on that side and was regnant so they put a stint in for a month and a half until they could remove the stone. Could I have damage and the ultrasound and blood test not show this?
