What Causes Tenderness And Inflammation On The Lower Gum?
hello - I awakened this a.m with a tenderness on my lower gum area. When I looked in the mirror, I see that almost half of my lower gum area is almost bright red. The upper gum looks normal. I'm wondering if I have some sort of infection... also, for 2 out of 3 nights I have eaten a batch of popcorn - could it be that it is only the popcorn irritating my gum?
As per your query irritation of lower gum area can be due to causes like a localised gum infection while can also be due to traumatic injury caused by any hard foods, burning with hot foods etc..
In case if it is associated with the gum around wisdom tooth then it can be due to inflammation of the gum flap over the wisdom tooth caused due to food accumulation in that area..
I would suggest you to start gargling with warm saline solution.. Take anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen. You can also do cool compresses over the sore gum area.. Massage the gums with Lidocaine gel..
If does not improve in a week consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a script of antibiotics will be advised..
Hope this helps..
Regards..
