What Causes Tailbone Pain In A Child When Sitting Or Standing?

My 13 year old son is having pain in his tailbone whenever he moves to sit or stand. He didn't fall or get hit. Onset was sudden with no clear cause. Increased in intensity for 3-4 days, but after a week of resting, the action of sitting or standing still hurts. Also, he has grown about 6 inches in a year.

Is this a growing pain, a chiropractic issue, or should we pursue X-rays or testing of some sort?

Hello,
Thanks for your query.
While waiting for your appointment, you might try icing the area and using NSAIDs, as long as both are safe for you.
Your pain could be coming from the coccyx itself, but it could also be referred pain from a different area of your spine.
There are many different techniques that might be performed for diagnostics and pain relief, including MRI and cortisone injections.
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
Take care
