My hand and upper arm is swollen after an IV was removed. I ve applied cold compresses all day but it doesn t seem to have made a difference. How long until the swelling goes down? Is there anything else I can do? It s not painful, just bothersome.
The swelling occurs due to extravasation of blood after IV insertion.Cold compresses help to an extent. Thrombophobe ointment can be applied twice daily in the affected area. Vitamin C tablet may also be taken to increase the stability of the vessel wall.Regards.
