What Causes Swollen Tonsils With White And Black Spots?
Because I was a Nurse my son has called concerned about a friends tonsils. Swollen with white and central black spots. I of course suggested she see a ear nose and throat specialist tomorrow. I ve never seen such prominent black spots before,should this be an additional concern?

As per your query your son's friend has white and black spots on his tonsils along with tonsillitis . Well the symptoms you mention in query are pointing towards a condition like upper respiratory track . It can be bacterial or viral . The white spot on tonsils represent two things it can be pus formation or tonsil stone . Black spot on tonsil represent blood clot on tonsils it sometimes also shows healing process going on . It seems to me that such symptoms occur when infection is left untreated for long time . I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination . Doctor may order certain test to confirm that weather it is viral or bacterial . Doctor may prescribe antibacterial or antiviral like acyclovir depending upon the diagnosis . In some severe cases doctor may recommend tonsillectomy . For now doe betadine gargles twice a day .
