What Causes Swollen Tonsils And A White Spot On The Right Tonsil?

I am currently 17.5 weeks pregnant with my 2nd child. There is a white spot on my right tonsil and both tonsils are swollen. Went to a walk in clinic last night and the 10 strep screen was negative but doctor said i could stilk have strep. Im just curious... if i were to have tonsils removed, is this a safe procedure to have done during pregnancy?

Hello,

You should avoid any operation or any kind of treatment during your pregnancy. If your doctor believes that you should not receive treatment then I'm sure there is some reasoning behind this decision. If you'd like to be more certain about streptococcus then you can also do a throat culture, which is a different test and needs a couple of days for the result.

Many of these infections are caused by viruses and are amenable to antibiotic treatment. There are clinical signs that your doctor may detect during clinical examination to distinguish between a viral potentially bacterial infection but none of them is 100% accurate.

I hope you find my comments helpful!
You can contact me again if you'd like any clarification or further information.

Kind regards!
