What Causes Swollen Tongue And Lips?

Hi, Every now and then I wake up with a swollen tongue or one side of my mouth or lips. It lasts for about 6hrs what is going on ? I have gone to a doctor when one morning my genitals were swollen and he gave me steroids but did not give me an answer as to why this happens. I'am a 58 yr old male.

Thanks for the query..

Your symptoms are pointing towards allergic reaction.
It looks like you are occasionally being exposed to some unknown allergens that is causing swelling of lips and tongue..
Steroids can suppress the immune response of the body towards the allergen and it reduces the symptoms but to rule out the cause of the allergy symptoms you should undergo an allergic test which will pinpoint the allergen..
Once the allergen is identified you should avoid exposing yourself t it to prevent the allergic symptoms..
You can also discuss with an Allergist about Immunotherapy once the allergen is ruled out..
