What Causes Swollen Throat, Tonsils And Uvula With Dark Purple Veins In A Toddler?

My daughter, age 3, was crying when I noticed her throat was very swollen, dark purple veins all over and her tonsils are very swollen and touching her uvula. She does not have a fever she never complains of a sore throat. I have noticed when she is sleeping that she chokes often, snores and stops breathing sometimes 5-7 seconds at a time.

Anesthesiologist 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms you have mentioned are clearly chronic pharyngitis and tonsillitis. In chronic conditions, fever is not a symptom but pain will be persistent. Your 3yr old couldn't make the pain out. Due to tonsillar enlargement, she is experiencing snores, choking, breathing difficulty or apnea. Please take her to a pediatrician or an ENT specialist for thorough clinical examination and appropriate treatment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
