Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband has been sick for a week with cough and fever. Diagnosed today with swollen lymph nods in chest and behind stomach. Enlarged spleen. Kidney failure probably from dehydration. In hospital. Will be checking for several things including lymphoma. History of various cancers in His fathers family. How likely is it he may have cancer?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Based on the history you have provided and the examination findings you have given, it appears that your husband could be suffering from 'lymphoma'. Also, strong family history would contribute more towards development of such type of disorders. It is unlikely that the enlarged lymph nodes in the chest and enlarged spleen could be caused only due to infection alone. Kindly get his blood check up done with complete blood count and peripheral smear examination along with bone marrow examination for making a proper diagnosis. Kindly consult Medical Oncologist with the reports for clinical evaluation and appropriate management. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best. Regards, Dr. Ashakiran.S., MBBS., MD.
