Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
yes, thank you. I'm am a 67 year old female in excellent health and I woke up this morning with a swollen gland on the left side of my neck under my jaw line. It has gotten progressively larger, I've taken aspirin thinking it may take the swelling down. Should I be overly concerned?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain it seems that you have enlarged submandibular salivary gland along with swollen lymph nodes can be due to infection in submandibular gland while if the lymph nodes are only swollen and not gland, then it can be due to chronic infections causing Reactionary Lymphadenitis .
Yes, getting an MRI scan along with biopsy/FNAC has to be done for confirmation of the cause and treatment can be done accordingly..
In case if there is infection, then a course of antibiotics along with anti -inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen along with alternate warm and cool compresses can help..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
