What Causes Swollen Lymph Node Along With Trouble In Hearing?

My 11 year old son has a swollen lymph node. He is complaining about the pain, more when sleeping. He says he is having trouble hearing and that the pain never ends. He is on antibiotics for a day now and it is getting bigger. Should I take him to the dr or ER? Or just wait for the antibiotics to work? He was screaming in pain through the night.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of swollen lymph node along with trouble in hearing which seems to be due to strep throat which is a bacterial infection. It can also be due to infection sinusitis, post nasal drip etc. I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation can help in diagnosis. You can be advised to take antibiotics like Augmentin or Azithromycin, anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen. Hot milk with a pinch of turmeric boiled with it at bedtime for 2-3 days as it has antimicrobial action. Avoid spicy and rough food. Take diet rich in soft food. Apply dry warm compresses on external ear and cover it while bathing.
