What Causes Swollen Lymph Glands In The Neck And Fever?

My son had swollen lymph glands and fever. Went to ER and they gave IV fluid and antibiotic. Did not test positive for strep. Did CT scan. Sent home with antibiotic. He is now throwing up everything including melds, still has fever. Can keep water down. Swelling in neck is a little better. Your suggestions? He is 26.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have swollen lymph glands in the neck and fever . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query due to causes like infection in the salivary gland that is Parotid gland that is a major structure present in that location while it can also be due to swollen group of lymph nodes. I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like x ray or ct scan , throat swab test or viral culture test can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly. You can be advised antibiotics and anti inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen and along with oral medication injection of antibiotic and steroid can also be given if swelling is severe. You can also be advised do warm saline gargles several times a day .
