Hi i have swollen gums and i have braces before i got braces i had a gapp between my two front teeth i had extra tissue and my gums at the top always are puffy and never seem to really go down and now my ortho. says if my gums dont go down i will have problems can u help
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns...
As per your complain if you had a high labial frenulum that is what you are calling extra tissue causing Diastema or gaping between the front teeth is due to high labial frenulum.
If while putting braces the frenulum is not incised and placed at a higher position then it gets impinged between the teeth when the space gets closed leading to injury, Inflammation and swelling..
You should consult a Periodontist and get evaluated and in case of impinging frenulum surgical correction of the same can be done..
If it is due to infection then Scaling and curettage followed by antibiotics and painkillers will relieve..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards.. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
