What Causes Swollen Feet While On Morphine?

My husband is taking morphine for pain and began having swollen feet this morning. We lowered he liquid dose from .5 ml to .25ml. But so far no improvement. He has them elevated and is drinking plenty of water and we even anointed with a cooling lotion. any other ideas? Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello ma'am and welcome.

Swelling in the lower limbs is usually a sign of a morphine overdose. Although swelling and puffiness of the face is commonly seen.

So please first speak to his doctor to see if he is being administered an adequate dose and this is not an overdose in any possible way.

Best wishes.
