What Causes Swollen Feet And Ankles After A Prostate Surgery?

I just had an operation on my prostate to remove some scar tissue on Tuesday. I am taking tamsulosin 0.4 mg capsules actavis. I just noticed that both of my feet and ankles are swollen. I am drinking lots of water and still have a tint of blood in my urine. What may be the cause?

Thanks for contacting HCm with your health concern

1. Leg swelling could be due to:

i. due to removal of lymph nodes for cancer biopsies
ii. due to effect of radiotherapy [radiation] damaging the lymph nodes/lymphatic system

PS. due to either of the two, the body no longer is able to get rid of the excess fluid as a result the fluid collects in the limb and swelling begins: lymphedema while blood urine is not uncommon after immediate surgery

2. Decongestive therapy is the preferred treatment either complete decongestive therapy (CDT) or manual decongestive therapy (MDT)

PS. maintain well hydrated skin and keep it clean: which acts a good defense barrier to prevent lymphedema.
