In this age periphral arterial disease are common, that is the arteries get narrows and blood supply to put is insufficient,or a vein become blocked by a thrombus,so leg becomes swollen dark red,hot and causes pain.
If i was his treating doctor i would do
A doppler ultrasound of leg
Ecg
Echo
D-dimers
Than i would establish a diagnosis of either deep vein thrombosis or ischemic vascular disease.. a vascular sirgeon or a physician in your area will be better to consult
