Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 58 yr old obese female. My right lower leg is slightly swollen and when I push on it; there is pitting. On the front of my leg, just above the ankle there is redness. It doesn t look like a rash. I saw a Cardiologist 4 years ago and he told me that my heart was in excellent shape but the veins in my legs were not in good shape. I work in a school and I am up and down through out the day. I have really bad knees. It is difficult to get around. I m worried about the red spot, it is about 1 1/2 long and 1/2 wide
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have swollen and painful leg. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like arthritis , gout , organ failure ( kidney , heart or liver ) , blood clot or muscle spasm . If condition doesn't get well then consult chiropractor for proper diagnosis . Doctor may order x-ray along with CT scan and physical examination . Doctor may prescribe methotrexate , orthodox MR , physical therapy and stretching exercises . I would suggest you to keep your leg in hot water tub with epsom salt for 15 minutes daily , apply warm compresses to your back , keep your leg elevated while lying down , take proper rest and take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain . As your already ruled out cardiac problem , then doctor may refer you to nephrologist for kidney failure or gastroenterologist for liver disease .
Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
