What Causes Swelling/warmth In Knee Joint After Non-displaced Patellar Fracture?

is it normal to have swelling and warmth in knee joint 8 weeks after non-displaced patellar fracture?

Last X-rays 2 weeks ago showed 80% healing and Dr. Started Rehab and removal of knee brace at 7 weeks.

I walk with no pain, but feel warmth in knee and some fullness when walking. no cane or brace

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Presence of swelling and warmth in the knee joint after a patellar fracture might be due to the presence of hemarthrosis (accumulation of blood in the joint secondary to the patellar fracture).Generally, this should settle down spontaneously as the time passes. It is worth using an elastic knee cap inorder to facilitate early resorption of the hemarthosis.

If you have any more issues, discuss with your treating physician.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
