What Causes Swelling Under The Penis Along With Discoloration?

Boyfriend an i was having sex. His penis hit my pubic bone hard.it hurt us both for maybe a minute. An hour later boyfriends scrotum started to turn black an blue . the black an blue traveled almost to the tip.we did go to the Er. They mentioned an ultra sound,but never gave him one.they said it was a tear in the tissue. He went the next day to urologist. He said the same thing. Near the tip..just under the rim of penis is a bulge like filled with blood. Which wasn t there when at er or Other Dr office. How can they tell for sure the extent of injury with no ultra sound ?

dear lady,

it is nice to see your concern for your boyfriend's health. the reason why everyone is saying its a penile injury/tear without an ultrasound is because of the following reason:

the penis is made of large tissues that have a pipe like structure (corpora cavernosa and corpora spongiosum). these pipe like structures fill up with blood at the time of erection during an intercourse. whenever there is any injury to this structure, it becomes evident as a bag/swelling of blood just under the skin. it is usually red initially and then turns blue-black, just like a scab on the skin changes colour. this is due to clotting of blood in this swelling. apart from this, there is no other kind of possibility in the penis.

hence, everyone gave you both same diagnosis without much examination. there is not much to worry. this injury shall heal within 2-3 weeks time. till then, unfortunately, your boyfriend may experience a lot of pain and it would be better to avoid sex. if you are able to meet a surgeon, with his advice, pressure bandage may be applied to the penis, but this usually works only if done within first few hours after injury. otherwise, we should wait for the body to heal itself.
