What Causes Swelling Under The Jaw On The Left Side?

hi, around lunch today I noticed my neck on the left side, under my jaw was puffy, and slightly sore if I moved my head a certain way. I checked my temp and it was 97.2. N ow it is 98. I feel ok, but was wondering if I should do anything? I was in Baja Mexico April 26 to 30 and killed a mosquito in my room the first night, but don't think it bit me. Should I be concerned about Zika virus, or anything else from my trip? Thank you

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Puffiness and soreness under the jaw can be due to infection in submandibular lymph nodes or can also be due to submandibular salivary gland.
No it is not necessary that you have some fatal infection and can be due to the common viral infection or bacterial infection..
Many a times infection in adjacent areas that drains into these lymph nodes like teeth, gums, tonsils etc can cause the lymph nodes to swell..
You can consult an Emergency room or a Physician and get evaluated so that they can advise you a course of antibiotics and painkillers along with doing cool compresses over the nodes to reduce the infection and swelling.
Hopefully the symptoms will subside in 3-4 days..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
