What Causes Swelling On The Index Finger After A Reconstruction Surgery?

I just had a reconstruction surgery on my base index finger knuckle. It s been well over 11 days since the procedure and I still have a lot of swelling, hot, redness, and lack of feeling. Could this be a reaction to the metal that was used in the procedure?

Hi,

The surgery with using a metal plate to stabilize will need few months to get adjusted. The swelling is common after such surgery and numbness you feel is due to pressure on the nerve supplying the finger... it should go as the swelling subsides.

The metal plate is made from a well-tested alloy... and is mostly well tolerated. The allergic symptom would commonly a company itching & rash...

Still it is better to have a review by the surgeon. His opinion would be after an actual examination, observation & needful investigations. Continue taking medicines advice. Follow the instructions given strictly. Go for physiotherapy as advised.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
