What Causes Swelling On The Feet After A Toe Joint Implant Surgery?

I had toe joint implant march 17th and I have pain not in my toe but top of foot with redness and swelling at the very base of big toe where it goes into the foot. The whole toe itself is reddish or blackish but no pain at the toe only in foot. Can bend toe a little with no pain. It s been this way for a week at least. It should be x rayed at 6 weeks the doctor who did the surgery is in Texas and I reside in ny. I send photos with my phone and they say it looks ok. A lot more discolored at night and after icing it

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Consult your orthopedic surgeon and get evaluated at the earliest. The symptoms you have given suggest the possibility of impaired vascularity to the toe. Consult your surgeon and get a Doppler scan to assess the flow. As of now you can apply ice packs for symptomatic relief.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
