What Causes Swelling On Forehead And Discolouration On Eye After Injury?

I fell and hit my forehead really hard the early morning of the 7th. Instantly the swelling was huge, but after laying down with an ice pack it went down a lot, and even mire since then. Now after 5 days, my eyes are very purple, black, blue. But my real concern is that there is still a squishy egg on my forehead. Is it normal? Does it need to be drained? Do I continue to use ice or heat? If I dont have it drained will it build scar tissue? Thank you so much!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
I understand your concern. This is head injury or trauma. Head trauma resulting from play or sporting events is a common concern for parents, but few bumps on the head of this nature result in serious injury. The forehead and scalp have an abundant blood supply, and injury to these areas often results in bleeding under the skin. When the bleeding is restricted to one area, it causes bruising and swelling. Doctors refer to this as a hematoma.

Occasionally, a blow to the head may be severe enough to cause bleeding in or around the brain. This type of bleeding can cause an intracranial hematoma, a serious condition that puts pressure on the brain.
See a doctor within one to two days of a significant head injury with ongoing symptoms, even if emergency care isn't required. Seek emergency medical attention if you experiences Unconsciousness, confusion or disorientation immediately after a head injury or after some time has passed.
You do not have to worry because squishy egg will be finished and resolved with the passage of time due to good circulation of blood. Please go to physician and he may advice you CT scan of head to rule out serious causes as we always have to be on safe side and patient safety is our top priority
