What Causes Swelling On Face, Ear, Jaw Joint Area And Neck?

I woke up with a swelling on the right side of my face between the ear and down to the jaw and swollen under in the neck. It is a solid swelling and is painful to eat anything cold or sharp tasting . It has lasted all day and i am wondering whether to see the doctor tomorrow if i can . I have previously been diagnosed with sjogrens but only have the sicca syndrome although the blood test i had years ago did show up the result fir sjogrens. I have been excessivle bloated ,constipated and have been taking herbs and preparationg for that and for treating the liver like a detox . I took some antihistamine this morning as i thoughtbit might jave been an insect bite but it made no difference . A cool pack helped relieve the ache a bit . It aches from the jaw to the ear so its difficult to tell if its an ear infection or tooth. Their is nit a specific toothache ,more in the jaw bone and above . The sweeling fits in the palm of my hand and mynface is visibly swollen at the side .

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...

As per your complain the swelling in the region between ear and jaw can be mainly due to two important structures which are:
1.Parotid gland which is one of the major salivary gland and any clogged duct of the gland or infection can lead to pain and swelling but as you have swelling below the jaw over neck it shows that you have infection in the gland..
2.Wisdom tooth originating inflammation in case if you have erupting wisdom tooth then gum flap over it may get inflamed due to infection or trauma by opposite jaw tooth leading to pain and swelling in the area that you described..
The swelling of lymph nodes below jaw is also seen in this case..

These are the two most probable causes of pain and swelling in this region of face, but a final diagnosis can be made by an Oral Physician only after examining you clinically and if an MRI scan required in case of Parotid Gland disorder is suspected..
As of now to relieve pain you can take OTC anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen ( Advil or Motrin) while in case of severe pain Ultram (Tramadol) can be taken..

Hope this information helps..
