What Causes Swelling On Cheek Bone After An Injury?

Yes hello, My daughter got hit just under her left eye and cheek bone with a softball yesterday afternoon. It is now swollen and bruised. We have been putting ice on it and it helps with the swelling but only while using the ice and a little after. I believe her eyeball is fine but I m concerned that her cheek bone might have been injured. How long should I wait before taking her to get and x-Ray? Thank you, Concerned mother

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello,
Swelling of face after an injury is due to venous congestion. Since subcutaneous fat is less in face, it swells up fast.Continue rubbing with ice cubes and give tylenol for pain. Usually swelling reduces by a day or two. Bluish color change might persts for few more days.
X ray is required if pain or swelling continue to increase.
All the best
