What Causes Swelling In The Vagina Along With Heavy Bleeding?
I am nearly 50 and started my cycle 10/4. Yesterday my vaginal area was swollen and irritated. Prior to bed I used a flushable wipe and cleaned the area. Within 5 minutes I had blood flowing heavily. This morning all symptoms are gone. What could cause that?
Your symptoms of swollen and irritated vaginal area at your age of 50s could be related to possible vaginal infection (bacterial or fungal).
When you wiped with a flushable wipe and cleaned the area, that would have lacerated the irritated vaginal area and caused bleeding explaining why you noticed blood flowing heavily. This also explains why the symptoms are all gone this morning.
When your periods will finish, I recommend to run a vaginal swab testing and transvaginal ultrasound and a good gynecological examination to determine the right diagnosis.
For the moment, I advise to: - keep good genital hygiene - use only runny water to clean the vaginal area, do not use wipe to avoid repeated irritation and swelling - avoid sexual/vaginal intercourse until improvement and until you see your gynecologist.
Wish fast recovery. Dr.Albana
