What Causes Swelling In The Throat And Vomiting After Taking Penicillin?

Hi I had tonsillitis last week and was prescribed penicillin. Last night my throat was very swollen and I was struggling to swallow the meds. Since taking my last dose yesterday which I struggled to swallow, I feel like one of the tablets is stuck under my epiglottis. I ve been gagging and vomiting all day and it s not moved. When I cough I feel it coming back up but I can t cough it out. Can you please advise on what to do?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of swelling in the throat and vomiting after taking Penicillin which seems to be due to gagging reflux due to presence of pus pockets and infection in body.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to

- Avoid spicy, sharp and chilled food substances.

- Do warm saline gargles on daily basis.

- Take soft, light and non bland food.

- Chew vitamin C pellet and take throat lozenges as well.

I f symptoms keeps on persisting visit ENT specialist once and get complete examination done. Start treatment after complete examination. Go for blood test as well.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
