My son is allergic to all penicillin and erythromycin meds and was giving neomycin and polymyxin b and sulfates hydrocortisone otic suspension usp drops for a ear infection that has his ear swollen is this related to any of the penicillin family and is it safe for him to take

Well the swelling of ear seems to be most probably due to infection in ear and less probably due to any other cause. However a clinical examination of his ear should be done to check whether there is infection in ear or it is due to inflammation caused by allergy. However infection seems to be most probable cause however you need to get it checked. In case if he has an infection in ear then these medicines will help in improvement and you can very much give it to him for reducing infection. Also avoid excessive water exposure to ear and do not pick the ear with ear bud or q-tip. Avoid exposure to very loud sounds as it can damage the ear drum that can be already be inflamed. Avoid swimming and diving if he does.
