Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I may have Lymphedema and am looking to see what it is and if I have it. A friend told me about it as I have swelling in both legs and ankles, bruising, knotted muscles when run a hand over skin it is bumpy in arms. The legs from knee to ankle in the front is red and dark spots &, hurts to apply pressure to them. I have worn compression sox from knees to ankles and they roll down and become more of a tourniquet than a help compress and keep fluid up out of ankles. I have changed shoe size from a 7 to a 7W to now a 7WW or 7E due to swelling in feet. I think that about covers it. I have been gaining weight even though diet and so some exercise. What do you think? Is this Lymphedea?
Hi and welcome. Thank you for your query. Swollen ankles and swollen feet are common and usually not cause for concern, particularly if you have been standing or walking a lot. But feet andankles that stay swollen or are accompanied by other symptoms could signal a serious health problem. Swelling in the feet and ankles can be a sign of infection. People with diabetic neuropathy or other nerve problems of the feet are at greater risk for foot infections. If you have diabetes, it is important to inspect feet daily for blisters and sores, because nerve damage can blunt the pain sensation and foot problems can progress quickly. If you notice a swollen foot or blister that appears to be infected, contact your doctor right away.
