What Causes Swelling In The Ankles After Taking Tramadol?
I just started taking Tramadol (one 50 mg tablet by mouth three times a day as needed for pain from muscle spasm [left shoulder radiating down through left arm to hand and up through left shoulder across to neck and up to left ear and across back to right arm and starting down right arm] ) and Baclofen (one 10 mg tablet by mouth three times a day as needed for muscle spasm for same condition. The medication was started on this past Tuesday. Today I just noticed swelling of both ankles. Would this be from the medication?
No, I do not think the swollen ankles are due to Tramadol. They are most probably due to the main reason you've been prescribed tramadol (arthritis/muscle spasms).
Better check it out with your rheumatologist as might need further diagnostic tests.
For the moment, apply cold compresses locally, keep the legs raised. Apply analgesic cream locally.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
