What Causes Swelling In The Ankle?

The last couple of days my left ankle area has gotten swollen and it is now moving up the leg. I do stand and walk a lot at work and now it is hurting to walk. I have RSD and was wondering if that could be related to the swelling or could it be circulation related? I do have circulation problems in my legs.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello.
Circulation problems in the legs could be due to various reasons, most commonly due to chronic venous insufficiency or varicose veins. Circulatory problems could be of 2 types, venous or arterial. Venous is less intense when compared to arterial pain as arterial disease can be more severe in terms of limiting the daily routine. It would be a good idea to get a color doppler scan of both the lower limbs for both arterial and venous system. This would give a clear picture of what the next step should be. I'm not aware of what RSD is. Are you referring to reflex sympathetic dystrophy? Please get back with more details to discuss this in detail.
