What Causes Swelling In Nose Along With Intermittent Nose Bleeds?

Hello, my son was mugged last Sunday. He sustained injuries to his ear, cheek and his nose was broken. He had an appointment with an ENT doctor but his nose was swollen too much for the ENT to reset his nose. He has been having nosebleeds on an off for the last two days; should he go to an ER?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi I am sorry about what happened to your son. It looks like he has a nasal bone fracture hence the severe swelling. If the swelling has subsided a bit he can go back to the ENT who will be able to assess him. If it's small quantity bleeding(10-15ml) it can be ignored as it will be expected. But if the bleeding is too much then you can take him to the ER. I wish your son a speedy recovery. Take care :)
