What Causes Swelling In Feet After Increasing Fluid Intake Due To High Urea Levels?
My father had elevated urea levels 225 and cretanine 2.1. Doctors treated for dehydration and within three days levels have down to 56 and 1.2. He has increased his fluid intake. However, since then there is swelling in his feet. Kindly advice for the reasons for this swelling
Hello, thanks for posting on HCM. Swelling of feet mostly have to main reasons, either kidney is not able to excrete the fluid which should be normally excreted and hence it is getting deposited in feet and other dependent regions of body. The second reason is low proteins. If serum albumin is low, it can also cause swelling in feet due to hypoproteinemia which is reversible after increasing protein intake. I would advise to check his serum albumin, if it’s low he can have high protein diet which is renal safe. Kindly consult for the same with your doctor. If its normal it could be due to increase in fluid retention which can be kept under control with giving diuretic medications which will cause the swelling to come down considerably. Thank you
