What Causes Swelling In Feet After A Traumatic Injury?

Today I recently droped a 150-200lb "bolder" on my foot it was ok I was able to lift the rock off and rife my bike bake home but the rock did crush my foot and it was stuck for a little. It is now swollen quite a bit but no brusing, though there is some red close to the skin as if blog vessels were broken but nothing "bad". It hurts to walk on it it hurts to flex my toes. I can put all of my weight on it thoughit doest hurt to the lightest touch. The swelling in just on the top. Should I go see a doctor to see if any thing is broken or just let it be. Rest is not really an option, for my job requires me to be standing and walking the whole time. Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear,

The symptoms as mentioned in your post are due to the impact as well as accumulation of fluid & blood (Hematoma).
The blood cells accumulated are eventually broken down and absorbed in the body. But this is a slow process & takes times to disappear completely.

Till that time, symptomatic relief is obtained by analgesics preparations (like Diclofenac + Serratiopeptidase), ice compression & adequate rest.

If it still persists or there are any other associated symptoms like fever, loss of sensation, restriction of movements, discolouration of foot, etc...then it will be better to consult your Doctor.
An X ray of the foot will be needed to rule out any bone fracture or soft tissue injury.

Till then, maintain adequate hydration & nutrition status.
There is no need to worry, you will be fine.

Wishing you a good health.
Take care.
