What Causes Swelling In Cheeks Post Wisdom Tooth Extraction?

I got my wisdom teeth removed 4 days ago. My cheeks are swollen but the left is significantly more swollen than the right, there is also a hard lump on my jaw near the extraction site on the left jaw. my cheeks are slightly red in appearance where the swelling is. There is also a white bump inside my left cheek near the extraction site, is this an infection or is this normal? What should I do? Please and thank you for any answers

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain swollen cheeks 4 days after extraction of wisdom tooth is not an abnormal finding and it occurs due to inflammation of the soft tissues that occurs commonly after any surgical procedure..
As the healing will proceed the swelling will subside..
A hard lump over the jaw near the extraction site seems to be due to hematoma formation due to splitting of small blood vessels during surgical procedure..
Nothing to worry as there seems nothing serious..
A small white bump on the cheek can be a traumatic ulcer that can occur due to injury to the cheek mucosa with an extraction instrument..
I would therefore suggest you to continue taking medication as advised to you by your dentist and along with it you should also do cool compresses over the cheek as well as do warm saline gargles..
In case if there is no improvement in next one week consult your treating dentist and get evaluated so that he can look for infection and other causes and treat you accordingly..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
