What Causes Swelling At The Back Of The Tongue After A Tonsillectomy?

I had a tonsillectomy last Monday. So I am on day 8. My tonsils were ridiculously huge and the doctor told my parents that my tonsils were so big, it was tonsils growing on tonsils. They were also holding infection, causing me constant stomach aches. He also said that my tonsils were growing on from my throat and on my tongue in the back of my throat. Now that they are out, the back of my tongue is swollen on the left side and has large bumps. It doesn t seem to be doing much on the swelling going down but maybe it s too early? It s making it harder to talk and I m just wondering if the swelling will ever go down. When I brush my teeth, I gag to get up the extra mucus out of my throat, but the left side feels as if something is stuck and it chokes me. Will this on the back of my tongue go away? If so, approximately how long?
