What Causes Swelling Around Big Toe?

So my the skin around my right big toe has been swollen for about 1 week now. At first it was just red then it turned dark red/black and now it is yellow around the area. But it is only swollen on the right side of the nail, the otger side looks fine and it has not spread or anyyhing either. But it is very sore and I cant put my shoes on properly. I was just wondering how severe this is. And if I have to seek for a professional help.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
from history it seems that there might be having ingrown nail infection giving this problem.
It is possible that growing nail it self on one side might give pinching and damage the local tissue.
Or some ill fitted shoes might have given this injury.
You might require one course of antibiotic medicine for 3 days.
Consult your doctor, he might cut the pinching nail edge to prevent further injury.
Ok and take care.
