What Causes Swelling And Stinging Sensation Under The Eyes?

I have swelling under my eyes along the bone socket area. Sometimes painful but can tell when it s going to flare up because of a warm burning stinging sensation. Started occurring this past February after a facial I had gotten and flares up at least once every two to three weeks and last for different times. I have been diagnosed with RA, Ankylosing Spondilytis, Psoriatic Arthritis, Fibromyalgia about 16 years ago and did take lots of meds and felt 10 times worse and took myself off about 5 years ago and started eating healthy, have lost 44lbs and kept it off, joint pain has decreased more than half along with stiffness and no more scaly skin patches all with changing my diet and food choices. Puzzled about the uncomfortable situation around my eyes. Cannot wear makeup when this starts.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, with the autoimmune disease you have had, it's better to get an ophthalmologist review as these all are related with eye complications especially RA and may need emergency management, steroids and anti-inflammatory drugs.

With these autoimmune disorders, it shouldn't be taken lightly. Scleritis or episcleritis etc should be ruled out. Some time artificial tears can be helpful as these also cause dry eyes.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
